Nicholas Jay Architect’s aspiration to design carbon neutral buildings is achievable as the firm’s culture is currently well aligned with a research and data driven design process. My focus in carbon-neutral design is geographically regional, and technically relevant to the types of projects I pursue in Ontario.
I harvest project data about the building envelope and floor areas. Then I leverage BIM software to quickly quantify light fixtures to calculate Lighting Power Density (LPD) and estimate the U-values for building assemblies when calculating predicted Thermal Energy Demand Intensity (TEDI). This improves the design process and project performance by establishing energy targets, and optimizing the design to achieve the project’s goals.
