Nicholas has been drawing his story as an architect since 1999 and has found the moral of the story is, 'The Golden Rule': collaborate with others as one wishes to be collaborated with.
Nicholas was conferred a Bachelor of Design with Highest Honors from the University of Florida, and Master of Architecture from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2005.
His professional experience commenced in Chicago with a complex practice of courthouses and justice facilities in municipal, state, and federal jurisdictions across the US. He worked at an internationally renown super-tall design firm, and emerged from the Great Recession with perseverance at a mid-sized practice that served the Archdiocese of Chicago and US Department of Veterans Affairs.
In 2013 Nicholas was promoted to Technical Director at a national architecture firm in Chicago with the purpose of helping them expand into Canada. When he landed in Toronto he established a field office and served as supervising architect. He diligently led 40 collaborative projects with the firm’s US offices designing for multi-national corporations in Ontario, Alberta, and British Columbia.
By the end of 2016 the field office grew to ten staff with other directors sharing leadership. Having accomplished what he set out to do, Nicholas decided it was time to move on.
Nicholas Jay Architect commenced business on January 1, 2017. Drawing upon broad experience and the art of collaboration, my Canadian practice is uniquely illustrated with American experience, education, and a standard of service that can only be delineated from my own style of Chicago work ethic and the sunny ease of Florida.
